When should the pregnant woman start iron therapy?
Dr. Wick answers, “Most prenatal vitamins have adequate iron so that additional supplementation is not necessary. Ideally, prenatal vitamins should be started prior to conception. If a woman is found to be anemic when her new OB labs are obtained, iron supplementation may be recommended.”

According to Mayo Clinic dermatologist Dr. Dawn Davis, “White spots on the nails usually are localized areas of detachment of the nail plate (ie the fingernail) from the nail bed (ie the skin underneath the nail), usually from simple trauma, like banging your finger. Areas of white can also mean high calcium, not low, but this is usually thick and chalky. Not related to pregnancy.”
