The April 28th Medical Edge Weekend program featured Dr. Robert Brown of Mayo Clinic talking about stroke. A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted. When the blood flow is not restored, brain cells begin to die. We discussed how to determine if someone is having a stroke, how to survive a stroke and how to prevent a stroke in the first place.
The entire program will be posted here on May 7th.

Do you often see stroke, arterial dissection and Fibromuscular Dysplasia in your practice?
Dr. Brown said “It is uncommon, but occasionally can happen especially in younger patients.”
HI,
I am wondering if there is ever going to be a cure for Gastroparesis?
Dr. Larry Szarka says “At present, there is no cure for gastroparesis but the condition can be managed in most patients by following special diets, and by the use of medications to make the stomach empty faster, and to treat the nausea. There is also a substantial amount of ongoing research to improve our understanding of how impairment in the different functions of the stomach (accommodation, emptying, and sensory functions of the stomach) are contributing to the unpleasant symptoms in this condition. In this way, it is hoped that we can devise more effective treatments in the future.”
